Reciprocal Tariffs – August 7th, 2025 – Impact
Dear Valued Customer,
As is detailed in the attached link, the well-publicized Executive Order from the White House regarding the reciprocal tariffs, the recent rates for most countries took effect on August 7th, 2025. This continues to be a fluid situation and while the cost of materials is relatively level, the additional tariff will be handled through a line-item charge to reflect the tariff impact in effect at time of arrival as we have been doing since this tariff was initially implemented.
In this case the new tariffs are effective with shipments from the Country of Origin on August 7th, and includes defined arrival dates. There is an arrival aspect to these transactions and we will share more details in an additional communication. To recover these tariff increases CMI will be including an updated per roll underlayment tariff charge. This is shown as a separate line item on your invoice. For additional details, please contact CMI.
Reciprocal Tariff Impact:
- At this time the tariffs are only increased on our mechanically-attached synthetic underlayments.
- Currently there is no change in steel tariffs from any origin as they are covered under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 on Imports of Steel and Aluminum and exempts them from the reciprocal tariffs.
- Our Canadian origin products are exempt from these reciprocal tariffs as defined in the The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Please be cautious with any companies conveying that they have no tariff cost or appear to be positioned well below the market. CBP has issued stern warnings regarding misrepresentation and transshipping and they have the ability to access and seize inventories where they feel the importer/supplier inappropriately avoided paying the proper tariffs.
We are committed to providing you with the best possible products and service. We appreciate your business and are here to answer any questions you may have.
Please feel free to call me directly or talk with your local CMI representative for clarity on tariff or any other issue.
